Picturesque route. Our own Switzerland

Picturesque route. Our own Switzerland

Where to go: village Gubkiv

Things should be taken with:

  • — suntan lotion and a swimming costume in summer;
  • — sledges in winter time;
  • — binoculars (for observing the birds flying and people swimming or sledging);
  • — friends which excellent expertise in having good time both in summer and winter.

Please imagine a gorgeous forest which imperceptibly turns into a marvelous valley and then runs into fantastically beautiful cliffy river banks. A capricious river called Sluch (not Rhine however) that can be somewhere impetuous or slow, flows here. Right above the river banks the mountains known as Sokolyni, not the Alpine, can be seen. This perfect landscape you have imagined looks like a piece of Switzerland, known here as «Nadsluchanska Shveizariya» (Sluch Switzerland). Here you will come across the ruins of an ancient castle as well as a secret underground pass; you may enjoy a legend about a princess imprisoned in a tower and have a rest in one of the numerous tiny guest houses, where all travelers are treated with delight and where one can try delicious Polissya delicatessen.

Thus if you are curious enough to find out why a lady of a noble descent gave such name to these lands — «Nadsluchanska Shveizariya» and discover the reasons why the mountains are called Falcon Mountains; if you want to go rafting on the river which is supposed to have carried once the boats of ancient Romans on its waves or simply have some swimming (or go sledging if the weather is rather chilly); whether you long to try a dish «marynynsky nightingales» or «eastern» pan-cakes, this route is strongly recommended to you.
